On Wednesday, February 19, 2014 PDSA partnered with SWAG (the Social Work Arts Group) to put on an event, Art in Space. The event, which occurred during the student’s lunch break, featured a screening of a Ted Talk and a discussion of art in public spaces. Students explored topics such as what we consider “art” versus “graffiti”, how art can change and reflect the values of a space, and how power and privilege intersect with these concepts.
While discussing this, the group also made a piece of art (pictured below). Furthering SWAG’s mission, creating art, creating community, creating dialogue, the hope was to add student art to the public spaces in the social work school. The untitled piece of community art can be seen on the fourth floor on the “art space” bulletin board.
